This choice is the start of a long relationship and in most cases, develops into strong friendships which last a lifetime. We encourage you to 'shop around' and we are comfortable that you will find that we have a lot to offer you.

Charts

Learn the meaning of the symbols and the colors on the charts used for navigation.  Also study the regulations associated with the symbols.  Knowledge of the chart forms the basis for navigation and understanding where various types of airspace exist.

Airspace

Study the different types of airspace.  Understand the regulations, equipment requirements, and pilot requirements for each of the type of airspace.  Learn to recognize the types of airspace as depicted on the charts.

Navigation

Study each of type of navigation required at the Private Pilot level.  These include pilotage, deduced reckoning, VOR, and ADF navigation.  Learn to work the E6B Flight Computer (mechanical or electronic) to plan a cross-country flight.  Each step of the cross-country planning process will be practiced in class and homework will be assigned.

Weight & Balance

Study the importance of weight & balance.  Understand the consequences of the overweight or out of balance aircraft.  Understand how to compute the weight and balance problem and your options if the aircraft is overweight or out of balance.

Performance

Use aircraft manuals to determine how much runway is necessary to take off or land the aircraft.  You will also determine true airspeed, rate of climb, and other factors associated with aircraft performance.

Weather

Learn basic weather terminology.  Understand the difference in types of fronts and the generalized weather patterns.  Be able to decode and understand the common aviation related weather reports and forecasts.

Federal Aviation Regulations ( FARS)

Study the FARs not previously covered.  Use the entire list of regulations appropriate to the Private Pilot as listed in the Airman's Information Manual (AIM).

Airport Operations

Use the Airport & Facility Guide to obtain information about the airport including the traffic pattern altitudes, runway sizes, and related information.  Discuss traffic patterns as used at non-towered airports.  Learn some of the common types of glide slope guidance equipment.

Aero Medical Considerations

Examine the effects of flight on the human body.  Discuss the causes of visual illusions leading to landing errors.  Understand the different classes of medical exams.

Instruments and Aircraft Systems

Study the instruments − what makes them work and understand the failure modes of each of the systems.  Understand the aircraft electrical system and what to do if it fails.  Understand the use and effect of carburetor heat.

Aerodynamics

Lift, gravity, thrust & drag, and other aspects of operating an aircraft.  This is a non-mathematical discussion of some of the important aerodynamic considerations and V speeds associated with the aircraft.

Final Exam

Students who score a passing grade on the final exam will receive a "sign-off" for their logbook entitling them to immediately take the FAA Written Exam.  Dallas School of Aeronautics, located in Classic's building, administers the computerized examination.

Training Materials

The Jeppesen Deluxe Private Pilot Training Kit is $248.60.

The course is based on the materials contained in this kit.  You must have or obtain the three basic manuals contained in the kit: Jep Training Syllabus, Illustrated Maneuvers Manual, and the Private Pilot Manual, plus a current copy of the FAR/AIM's.  All are available at Classic's Pilot Shop.

The Primary Ground Training Course is limited to 10 students per session.

Pricing Guide

Prices shown in this Pricing Guide illustrate training which exceeds minimum requirements and which should result in the desired rating(s). This guide should be used in consultation with one of our managers or instructors to determine the best and most cost effective course of study to meet your requirements.

Due to the fact that Classic Aviation cannot control a student's study habits or the effort he/she is willing to devote to the completion of the ratings. NO GUARANTEE is offered.

Your costs may vary according to the amount of time, effort, and study you put into vour training program.

If upon completion of each segment of the training package, the student has not successfully passed the FAA Checkride for that rating, additional training (instruction & aircraft rental) is available at the indicated cost per hour.
