Ellyas “The Exocet” Pical is a legendary World champion and a national icon. Pical’s Nickname “The Exocet” was given by the press referring to his thunderous left-hand punch.
Early on his childhood, Pical was a natural pearl diver who would dive to the bottom of the sea to find pearls. After watching his idol, Muhammad Ali on television, Pical was inspired to be a boxer and dreaming one day that he would become a World Champion too like his idol. Little did everyone knows, how the little young pearl diver’s career would become. Pical became the first World Champion from Indonesia and successfully defended his title many times.
Started boxing at the age of 13, Pical was one of the best amateur boxer that Indonesia has ever produced. After a successful career in amateur boxing, Pical decided to turn pro and won his first World title at the age of 24. After defending his world title for a few times, Pical unfortunately lost his title to Juan Polo Perez in 1989. After the fight, Pical decided to retire from the world of professional boxing and he is now focused on developing future champions.
